Dear Senator Hawley,

On behalf of over 2.2 million members of the Association of Mature American Citizens including nearly 54,000 Missouri residents, I write to offer our support for S. 4135, the “Dissolving the Disinformation Governance Board Act.”

Free speech is a fundamental American right and as such should be zealously and vigorously defended. Our first, and most important amendment to the Constitution states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

We have arrived at a time in our nation’s history when elements of our very own government are threatening the free speech of its citizens. This is not a partisan issue but one that should be supported by all Americans; if one group loses the ability to speak freely, it is a slippery slope to a time when more and more are silenced, unable to freely voice opinions and beliefs. Finally, without freedom of speech, we cannot have the honest discourse required to be able to peaceably resolve problems.

It is vital you continue your work to uncover the elements within the government that seek not only to police free speech through overt methods such as the Disinformation Governance Board, but also through other shadowy and covert methods as exposed by an online investigative report published by The Intercept in October.
