In its newest release of their stylebook, used by news platforms for guidance on consistency of terms, the AP forbade the use of the phrase “late-term abortion,” according to Blaze Media.
“Do not use the term ‘late-term abortion,’” the official account for the stylebook demanded in a tweet. “The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists defines late term as 41 weeks through 41 weeks and 6 days of gestation, and abortion does not happen in this period.”
As an alternate the AP instructed to “use the term ‘abortion later in pregnancy’ if a general term is needed, but be aware that there are varying definitions of the time period involved. Be specific when possible.”

The stylistic mandate did not receive a warm embrace.
“Do use the term late-term abortion, because it is accurate and happening across the country,” advised LifeNews, which called the ACOG “a pro-abortion group”.
