During a long discussion about free speech, and after becoming the new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk noted that his chances of being shot are “quite significant.”

“Frankly the risk of something bad happening or literally even being shot is quite significant. I’m definitely not going to be doing any open air car parades, let me put it that way,” Musk said in a Twitter Spaces discussion on Friday. 

“It’s not that hard to kill me if somebody wanted to, so hopefully they don’t.”

Musk, to my knowledge, hasn’t come outright in support of the 2nd Amendment as most readers of this article view it, but he has made some comments in the past that would lean him towards the right.

“I strongly believe that the right to bear arms is an important safeguard against potential tyranny of government,” Musk told CNBC in an email. “Historically, maintaining their power over the people is why those in power did not allow public ownership of guns.”

A few days ago, the internet caught fire when Musk tweeted a photo of his bedside, which looked a little something like this:

Gun communities shared this image far and wide after it was posted, but many thought that the guns in the photo were real. In fact, the gun in the box is a non-working replica of George Washington’s gun, and the other is a piece of cosplay. Translation; neither is a functioning firearm.

Still, his support for the Constitution is apparent, but does a man who believes he is a risk of being assassinated carry a gun for self-defense?

While I can’t say for certain, it’s not likely. Musk no doubt has private security that helps to keep him safe and while he feels that it’s possible his life could end at any moment at the hands of a lunatic, I still believe that he’s not carrying a firearm around with him on the daily, or at all.

Musk has given praise to at least one person who used their gun to defend themselves and others during a potential mass shooting, as any person who doesn’t want to see loss of life would do.

I hope that Musk isn’t thrown into the category of ‘if something happens, someone will be there to help’, because we have hundreds of articles that show otherwise.
