CHESTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA — Convicted murderer Danelo Sousa Cavalcante, 34, was recently seen about 1.5 miles from Chester County Prison, 40 hours after his escape. Captured on a residential camera at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Cavalcante was in the same attire he wore during his escape: pants, a light-colored T-shirt, and white sneakers. There’s also mention of him wearing a backpack, its origin unknown.
An attempted burglary was reported near the prison, prompting Longwood Gardens, a nearby tourist attraction, to shut its doors on Saturday due to the ongoing manhunt.
Hundreds of officers, from U.S. Marshals to state and federal agencies, are sweeping the area. District Attorney Deb Ryan advised locals to stay inside, lock their vehicles, and monitor their surveillance cameras. Residents were warned to not approach Cavalcante but to dial 911 if spotted, emphasizing his dangerous nature.
Cavalcante, convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend in front of her children, was serving a life sentence. He’s also sought in Brazil for another alleged killing.
Last seen near the prison at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, a $10,000 reward is now offered for details leading to his arrest. Those with information should contact 911 immediately.
