According to FreedomProject Academy Executive Director Dr. Duke Pesta, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) corresponds with the fall of morality.

He shared this thought with Dr. Daniel Bobinski during the May 4 episode of “Keep The Republic” on Brighteon.TV. Pesta, known as the host of “The Dr. Duke Show,” said the ascent of AI happened at a time when people have torn down all moral barriers.

Pesta noted that during many of the previous great leaps forward – including the invention of the computer – the Americans still thought morality mattered and that there were limits to what science can do. He added that the Americans were very careful to think these things out back then.

“Now, I think we live in a world where –farther than any other period we ever lived in – morality seems to be completely vanished. ‘What we can do’ is ‘what we should do,’ and there doesn’t seem to be any of the considerations taken into account.”

Bobinski agreed with his guest, saying that idea of morality was shoved out the door back in the 1960s when prayer was taken out of schools. The removal of prayer in schools has had a ripple effect, which continues to be felt to this day.

However, the “Keep The Republic” host mentioned that billionaire Elon Musk has called for a pause on AI development. More than 1,000 people from the tech industry, including Musk himself and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, signed a letter calling for a moratorium on AI back in March. The letter came in response to OpenAI releasing the latest model of its GPT-4 chatbot.

Bobinski: China won’t pause AI development

Bobinski played footage of computer scientist Geoffrey Hinton, reportedly one of the experts responsible for the development of AI. The 75-year-old Hinton stepped down from his position at Google and expressed his concerns about AI. According to Hinton, things more intelligent than humans such as GPT-4 are taking control. He added that chatbots such as GPT-4 can eclipse a person in the amount of general knowledge it has and by a long way. Thus, the computer scientist has also called for developers to hit pause on AI development.

“In terms of reasoning, it’s not as good, but it does already do simple reasoning,” said Hinton. “Given the rate of progress, we expect things to get better quite fast. So, we need to worry about that,” Hinton said.

The 75-year-old also lauded Google for acting as a “proper steward” for AI technology so far, but warned that it is facing intense pressure from its competition. Hinton ultimately remarked that tech giants are trapped in the AI race that will require global regulation to stop.

The “Keep The Republic” host said China won’t be stopping its AI development in case the U.S. does so to ensure safeguards are in place. By the time the U.S. resumes development, it will be at an even bigger disadvantage. In response, Pesta said the Chinese Communist Party under the leadership of paramount leader Xi Jinping is exactly the kind of entity that would be willing to use AI to control everything.
