ORANGE CITY, FL – A dispute at Luna Sands RV Resort in Orange City escalated into a shooting early Wednesday morning, resulting in the arrest of a local man on charges of attempted murder. Deputies responded to the scene at 1440 E. Minnesota Avenue shortly before 5 a.m., where they found a 32-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
The suspect, identified as 42-year-old John David Wilson, was taken into custody without incident after deputies surrounded his camper. The investigation revealed that there was no previous history of animosity between Wilson and the victim, who are neighbors at the RV park.
According to witness statements, the confrontation began around 4:30 a.m. when Wilson was reportedly shouting incoherently outside his camper. The victim, who was on his way to the gym, was confronted by Wilson and threatened to return to his residence. When the victim inquired if Wilson was addressing him, Wilson responded with a countdown and threatened to shoot if the victim did not comply. Wilson then followed through on his threat by firing a shotgun at the victim from approximately 30 feet away.
Despite his injuries, the victim managed to return fire with his handgun, although Wilson was not hit. Both firearms and additional evidence supporting the accounts of the incident were recovered by deputies.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries caused by buckshot, which were dangerously close to his neck and head. He was reported to be alert and conversing during his transport for medical treatment.
