The Department of Justice (DOJ) has reportedly found that Democrat politicians are skewing crime statistics in an attempt to falsely state that crime is on the decline under their leadership leading into next year’s midterm elections.
According to a new report from Charles Gasparino for The New York Post, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker – who is reportedly eyeing a White House bid in 2028 – may be one of the worst offenders in this ongoing scheme that makes blue cities look far less dangerous than they actually are.
According to “official” state and local government data, Chicago has allegedly seen double-digit declines in crime rates, with the governor stating that “shootings and homicides on our highways are down 60, 70, 80 percent depending on where you look.” But as Gasparino explains, this decline is only because the city’s “woke prosecutors are knocking down felonies to something less severe for political reasons.” He added that the same is happening in other blue cities as well, such as New York, Los Angeles, and Portland.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is also notorious for downgrading felonies, according to Gasparino. While Bragg infamously used a “novel legal theory” to upgrade misdemeanor charges to felony charges against President Donald Trump in 2024, he has “continued to allow violent offenders to plead to misdemeanors instead of felonies even after committing robberies or violent assaults.”
One such case was that of David Mazariegos, who “was arrested last week for the allegedly unprovoked killing of straphanger Nicola Tanzi, stomping him on the head repeatedly outside a Brooklyn subway station.” Despite Mazariegos having a criminal record, a judge let him off a previous assault charge with just a misdemeanor before he finally killed someone. Bragg declined to prosecute the initial assault as a felony – an act that likely would have saved Tanzi’s life.
“Mazariegos has a long criminal record and yet this past July, just before his latest alleged wanton act, an NYC judge lowered his bail in an assault case because prosecutors didn’t charge him with a felony and instead settled for a misdemeanor,” Gasparino said.
As AMAC Newsline has previously reported, in July a commander in the Washington, D.C. Police Department was also suspended for allegedly changing crime statistics to make things seem better than they actually were.
Fraternal Order of Police President Gregg Pemberton explained that law enforcement officers are often told by their superiors to report crimes as lower offenses. “Instead of taking a report for a shooting or a stabbing or a carjacking, they will order that officer to take a report for a theft or an injured person to the hospital or a felony assault, which is not the same type of classification,” he said.
That revelation came following Trump’s decision to federalize the DCPD and deploy the National Guard to restore order to the streets of the nation’s capital. High-profile Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, had been falsely claiming that crime in the city was actually at a 30-year-low.
This strategy is nothing new for Democrats. As AMAC Newsline reported last September, under the Biden administration the FBI abruptly changed its reporting system, resulting in crime statistics being incomplete for cities accounting for a full 25 percent of the country’s population. Despite this glaring hole in the data, the Biden White House declared that it had reduced crime nationwide.
Now, the Trump Department of Justice and FBI are correcting those errors. Americans may soon finally know just how dangerous their cities are – and just how much Democrats have failed them.
