GRAND PRAIRIE, TX — A suspected burglar was shot and killed early Sunday morning after reportedly breaking into a home in Grand Prairie, prompting a self-defense investigation by local authorities.
According to the Grand Prairie Police Department, officers were dispatched around 1:50 a.m. to the 400 block of Santa Margarita Street following a report of a suspicious person. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man dead inside the residence.
Police say the homeowner, an elderly male, contacted authorities after an unknown individual forced entry through the rear door of his home. Armed with a hunting rifle, the homeowner confronted the intruder, who was reportedly rummaging through belongings inside the house.
In fear for his life, the homeowner discharged his weapon, striking the suspect. The intruder was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased.
The incident is currently being investigated as a lawful act of self-defense. No charges are expected to be filed against the homeowner.
