Switching to low-plastic diet and personal care products linked to rapid drop in urinary phthalates, bisphenol levels, trial finds
Researchers in Australia reported that replacing food and personal care products with low-plastic alternatives for seven days reduced urinary levels of several plastic-associated chemicals. The randomized controlled trial, known as the PERTH Trial, involved 60 adult participants in Perth, Australia, according to the study authors. The findings appeared in the journal Nature Medicine.
The study measured urinary levels of phthalates and bisphenols before and after the intervention. According to the study authors, participants showed significant decreases in multiple types of phthalates and bisphenols after one week.
