“We will develop new digital products with a special focus on digital experiences worth paying for,” Thompson told staffers in a memo in July.

The network is also exploring opportunities to hire talent in emerging areas such as data science and product development, signaling a shift away from traditional television production.

The layoffs are expected to target production staff, with some shows currently produced in New York and Washington relocating to Atlanta, where operational costs are lower.
