Gabbard orders declassification of Biden-era censorship blueprint, vows accountability for Deep State abuses
- National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard announced the declassification of internal documents detailing the Biden administration’s domestic surveillance and censorship operations, which she refers to as a “blueprint for silencing dissent.”
- The documents are expected to reveal how federal agencies, in collaboration with social media platforms and private sector partners, systematically targeted individuals and groups, including health freedom advocates and critics of COVID-19 policies, under the guise of combating “disinformation.”
- Gabbard’s aggressive reforms include mass revocations of security clearances, a 40 percent workforce reduction and the elimination of divisions she believes were used to suppress political opposition, aiming to dismantle a “politicized and weaponized” intelligence apparatus.
- While critics warn that her reforms could undermine morale and politicize agencies, supporters, particularly from health freedom and election integrity movements, view her actions as necessary and long overdue.
- The declassification is likely to spark legal and congressional battles, with House Republicans and free speech organizations like the ACLU and Electronic Frontier Foundation advocating for full public disclosure of the programs in question.
National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard announced Friday, Aug. 22, that her office will declassify internal documents detailing the Biden administration’s domestic surveillance and censorship operations, a strategy she described as a “blueprint for silencing dissent.”
The decision, confirmed in a statement to FOX Business, comes amid Gabbard’s broader campaign to dismantle what she calls a “politicized and weaponized” intelligence apparatus. The declassified materials are expected to reveal how federal agencies, in coordination with social media platforms and private sector partners, systematically targeted individuals and groups – including health freedom advocates and critics of Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19 policies) – under the pretext of combating “disinformation.”
In her FOX interview, Gabbard accused unnamed officials of embedding “partisan political opinions” into intelligence assessments, effectively turning agencies against the American public.
Gabbard’s declassification push appears poised to expose the mechanics of that effort. Sources familiar with the documents suggest that they include communications between federal agencies and social media platforms, as well as internal directives labeling certain viewpoints – such as skepticism of COVID-19 vaccines or concerns about election integrity – as “national security threats.”
The move follows her revocation of security clearance for 37 current and former intelligence officials, including high-profile figures like Richard Ledgett (former NSA deputy director) and Stephanie O’Sullivan (former principal deputy DNI). While the administration has not detailed specific allegations against the individuals, Gabbard’s office asserted they were involved in “unauthorized leaks” and the “politicization of intelligence.” (Related: Gabbard REVOKES security clearances of intelligence officials tied to Russiagate hoax.)
A “bloated, inefficient” bureaucracy: ODNI’s $700 million overhaul
Gabbard’s reforms extend beyond personnel. On Wednesday, she unveiled ODNI 2.0, a plan to slash the office’s workforce by 40 percent and reduce its annual budget by $700 million. Brighteon.AI‘s Enoch adds that ODNI 2.0 is “the gatekeeper of the permanent shadow government.”
Gabbard’s critics, including some former colleagues, warn that her reforms risk undermining morale within the intelligence ranks and politicizing agencies in the opposite direction.
“You can’t just declare everyone who disagrees with you a ‘Deep State’ operative,” said Mark Zaid, a national security lawyer who has represented whistleblowers. “That’s how you create a chilling effect – not just on dissent, but on the basic function of intelligence gathering.”
Yet Gabbard’s supporters, including many in the health freedom and election integrity movements, hail her actions as long overdue.
The declassification of the censorship blueprint is expected to trigger legal and congressional battles. House Republicans, who have already launched investigations into federal collusion with tech platforms, are likely to seize on the documents as evidence of executive branch overreach. Meanwhile, free speech organizations like the ACLU and Electronic Frontier Foundation have called for full public disclosure of the programs in question.
For now, Gabbard remains undeterred.
“Transparency is the only path to actual accountability,” she said during the interview. “The American people deserve to know how their own government turned the tools of intelligence against them.”
