Border czar Tom Homan has vowed to hold New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy accountable for the latter’s alleged harboring of an illegal alien, which Homan has described as a violation of federal immigration law.
“I think the governor’s pretty foolish … [with] what he said because I’ve gotten a hold of it. We won’t let it go. We’ll look into it,” Homan said on Monday, Feb. 3, during an interview with Sean Hannity of Fox News.
“If you knowingly, knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien, that’s a violation of Title 8, U.S. Code 1324. I will seek prosecution or the [Homeland Security] secretary will seek prosecution.”
Homan’s comments came in response to Murphy’s recent remarks during an event at Montclair State University, where he appeared to suggest he was harboring an undocumented immigrant in his home. The illegal alien in question was a friend in his circle who was struggling with her immigration status.
“And good luck to the feds coming in to try to get her,” Murphy quipped. The New Jersey governor’s office later released a statement claiming that the remark was “misinterpreted.” He insisted that no undocumented immigrant resides at his home.
But this failed to assuage Homan, who has made it clear that no one – not even a sitting governor – is above the law. “Maybe he’s bluffing,” Homan remarked. “If he’s not, we’ll deal with that.”
Homan’s threat underscores the second Trump administration’s hardline stance on immigration enforcement, particularly in sanctuary jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate with federal authorities. Murphy’s alleged actions, if proven true, would represent a direct challenge to federal law and a betrayal of his duty to protect the interests of New Jerseyans, the border czar argued.
Homan: Sanctuary cities shield CRIMINALS
The controversy comes amid a broader push by the second Trump administration to crack down on sanctuary cities and states that refuse to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Homan, a former acting ICE director, has been a vocal critic of these jurisdictions, arguing that they endanger public safety by shielding criminal aliens from deportation.
“Sanctuary cities are a sanctuary for criminals,” Homan told Hannity. He pointed to the tragic case of Laken Riley, a young woman from Georgia whose killer Jose Ibarra was released by New York City (NYC) authorities despite being a known immigration violator.
“If they had given us the killer of Laken Riley when he got arrested in NYC for endangering a child, he would have been in jail. They would never have killed Laken Riley,” the border czar lamented. “Sanctuary cities are responsible for the deaths of thousands, thousands of young children throughout my career.”
“We’re going to show them we’re going home. And look, we’ve got a Supreme Court. That’s what President Trump wanted to do. He will end sanctuary cities.”
In November, Homan warned sanctuary cities blocking his mission of upholding immigration law to steer clear if they won’t be aiding in law enforcement efforts.
“If you’re not going to help us, get the hell out of the way,” he said during an appearance on “Fox & Friends” at the time. “We’re going to do the job without you or with you. But it’s much easier to arrest a bad guy in the jail.” (Related: Tom Homan warns opponents of BORDER SECURITY: “Get the hell out of the way.”)
“Give us access to Rikers Jail that we’ve been kicked out of. Let us get the bad guy in jail. It’s safer for the alien. It’s safer for the officer. It’s safer for the community.”
As the debate over immigration enforcement continues to heat up, Homan’s confrontation with Murphy serves as a stark reminder of the high stakes involved. For now, all eyes are on the Garden State, where its governor’s alleged defiance of federal law has put him squarely in the crosshairs of one of the administration’s most determined enforcers.
