In May 2024, the Biden administration released more than 62,000 illegal aliens into the United States. In May 2025, that number dropped to zero.

That was the headline from the latest round of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data released on Tuesday, which showed yet another month of historic lows in illegal border crossings.

Total border encounters in May declined 88 percent from a year ago, continuing the trend seen in February, March, and April. In the four full months Trump has been in office, illegal border crossings have declined by an identical 88 percent from 2024.

Trump’s success on the border represents perhaps one of the greatest achievements of any administration in history in its first four months in office. While the Biden-Harris administration insisted that “root causes” and “external factors” were responsible for the unprecedented flood of illegal aliens into the United States beginning in January 2021, Trump is now completely vindicated in his assertion that a change in leadership was all that was necessary to solve the crisis.

White House border czar Tom Homan announced the news in a post on X detailing CBP’s success. According to Homan, in the 24 hours prior to his post, CBP “encountered a total of 95 illegal aliens across the entire southern border,” which is the lowest number on record. This is in stark contrast to the Biden administration, where daily border crossings often exceeded 10,000.

Homan further pushed for Congress to pass the “Big Beautiful Bill” to ensure the border is better secured in the future.

“To continue this great work and make it more permanent, we need the Big Beautiful Bill passed so we can finish the job, to include the biggest deportation operation the American people voted for,” Homan said. “God bless the men and women of CBP and ICE. President Trump is the Game Changer!”

The Big Beautiful Bill specifically includes funding to build over 2,300 miles of border wall and barriers that Trump promised in his first administration.

The bill also includes additional funding to hire 10,000 more ICE officers, 5,000 new custom officers, and 3,000 new Border Patrol agents. Border Patrol and ICE agents on the frontlines will receive $10,000 bonuses annually over the next four years if the bill passes.

CPB released a statement Tuesday detailing more accomplishments in May. Throughout the month, Border Patrol agents only encountered 8,725 illegal aliens attempting to cross the southern border. The agency explained that “this was a 93 percent decrease from May 2024 when USBP encountered 117,905 aliens.”

In total, CPB had an average of 952 encounters with illegal aliens each day in May. The agency said this was the “second lowest average daily number of CBP encounters in history.” CPB Acting Commissioner Pete Flores praised the Trump administration’s handling of the border.

“Under the leadership of this administration, CBP has received historic support resulting in another 93 percent decrease in illegal crossings along the southwest border this month when compared with last year,” Flores said. “Border numbers continue to trend at historic lows, reinforcing the sustained success of our enforcement efforts in securing the homeland and protecting American communities.”

CPB announced that the agency also seized 718 pounds of fentanyl in May. From April to May, cocaine seizures increased by 19 percent while heroin seizures increased by 191 percent.
