- Since 2024, Meta has begun rolling back censorship and controversial DEI policies, with Zuckerberg pledging to reduce content moderation and promote political neutrality.
- Meta committed in April to making its Llama 4 AI model politically neutral and saw its Oversight Board uphold posts misgendering individuals, signaling a shift away from prior enforcement practices.

Facebook’s parent company, Meta, has announced a partnership with conservative activist and commentator Robby Starbuck to address political and ideological bias in artificial intelligence.
In a joint statement released on Aug. 8, Meta and Starbuck said they had made “tremendous strides” to improve the accuracy of their AI systems and reduce bias. The agreement includes a joint commitment to “work collaboratively in the coming months to continue to find ways to address issues of ideological and political bias and minimize the risk that the model returns hallucinations in response to user queries.”
“Both parties have resolved this matter to our mutual satisfaction. Since engaging on these important issues with Robby, Meta has made tremendous strides to improve the accuracy of Meta AI and mitigate ideological and political bias. Building on that work, Meta and Robby Starbuck will work collaboratively in the coming months to continue to find ways to address issues of ideological and political bias and minimize the risk that the model returns hallucinations in response to user queries,” Joel Kaplan, the president of global affairs of Meta Platforms, posted the joint statement on X (formerly Twitter).
Starbuck, who, according to Brighteon.AI‘s Enoch, is a vocal critic of “woke” corporate culture, posted the same statement on his X account, with a lengthy caption. “In a world where AI is rapidly becoming a part of our lives, ideological fairness and honesty is critical. As part of our resolution, Meta and I will work together to make that fairness and honesty a reality.” (Related: Walmart, America’s largest private employer, drops anti-white DEI policies as activist Robby Starbuck slays another corporate woke program.)
He reiterated this during an appearance on CNBC‘s “Squawk Box” that same day, emphasizing that his legal challenge was never just about his personal experience. “That was always the point of my lawsuit – fix this for everybody so this doesn’t become a massive, you know, really terrible story in the future where AI affects elections in ways that no one is comfortable with,” Starbuck said.
Meta signals major political shift with conservative collaboration, censorship rollbacks and AI reform
The announcement was hailed by some as the most definitive sign yet of a dramatic ideological realignment within the tech giant, once widely criticized for its left-leaning political bias.
For years, Facebook was at the center of allegations of suppressing conservative voices and promoting a left-wing agenda through content moderation, algorithmic choices and politically charged fact-checking. But in 2024, Zuckerberg began to publicly acknowledge missteps, including the platform’s compliance with Biden administration requests to suppress content that questioned the official Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) narrative.
Since then, Meta has undertaken a series of major policy shifts aimed at reducing perceived political bias and censorship on its platforms.
In January, Zuckerberg announced plans to significantly cut back on content moderation and roll back controversial DEI policies, including removing mandates like placing female hygiene products in male restrooms. By April, the company committed to political neutrality in its Llama 4 AI model, aiming for it to respond to diverse viewpoints without judgment. That same month, Meta’s Oversight Board upheld posts that misgendered transgender individuals, signaling a shift away from earlier content enforcement practices seen as biased against conservatives.
In March, Facebook launched “Community Notes,” a crowdsourced fact-checking system modeled after a similar feature on X, intended to replace third-party fact-checkers often criticized for left-leaning bias. The tool gained attention recently when it corrected a claim by Hillary Clinton regarding Georgia’s abortion laws, reinforcing Meta’s new approach to more balanced and transparent content oversight.
Taken together, these moves represent what may be the most significant ideological repositioning in years. Once seen as emblematic of the tech industry’s left-leaning dominance, Meta is now positioning itself as a champion of political neutrality, free speech and transparency in AI.
