The issue stemmed from the three brothers’ card payment failing a week prior. “We agreed that they would come back and pay later,” recounted. Ahmad’s 17-year-old son Radwan. The siblings owed the shop €15 ($17.53) – but instead of settling the debt, they confronted the shop owner and Ahmad’s 10-year-old daughter Hanan. The three siblings entered the cafe and exhibited “really aggressive” behavior – overturning chairs and attacking staff members.
When asked if they were planning to pay, one of the brothers answered in the negative and demanded that Ahmad give them more ice cream. The brothers sprung into attack when Ahmad threatened to call the police. The eldest brother, aged 25, struck the shop owner in the head with a flagpole while the two others overturned chairs and tables.
Aside from Ahmad, Hanan and a 24-year-old employee of the shop also suffered injuries. The 10-year-old was left with scratches and bruises, leading her older brother Radwan to comment: “I find it simply unmanly to attack a child.”

Police arrived swiftly with guns drawn, but this did not faze the intruders one bit. The eldest brother continued resisting arrest, forcing officers to use pepper spray. Three policemen were injured in the scuffle.
