The homicide rate has dropped in America’s major cities by 17 percent in the first six months of President Donald Trump’s second term compared to the first half of 2024, coinciding with the administration’s efforts to deport illegal aliens.
The Council on Criminal Justice (CCJ) released a new report this month detailing homicide data gathered from 30 prominent U.S. cities, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Memphis, New York City, and Philadelphia. The data revealed that there “were 10% fewer reported aggravated assaults, 21% fewer gun assaults, 10% fewer sexual assaults, and 3% more domestic violence incidents” across these cities during the first six months of this year compared to last year.
The CCJ’s report further showed that violent crimes have decreased to the point that they are now as low as they were before the COVID-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter riots of 2020. There were reportedly “14% fewer homicides in the study cities in the first half of 2025 than in the first half of 2019.”
The Daily Signal reported that this decrease in crime is directly linked to the Trump administration’s efforts to deport illegal aliens.
“Every single day we are arresting gang members, murderers, pedophiles, and violent predators,” Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement provided to the Signal. “70% of [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] arrests are of illegal aliens who have been convicted or charged with a crime. These arrests and deportations of criminal illegal aliens are having real impact on public safety.”
In total, the Trump administration has deported more than 253,000 illegal aliens this year. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested approximately 30,000 illegal aliens in June, which is the most arrests on record since the data has been publicly available. White House border czar Tom Homan praised the administration’s success battling illegal immigration in a post on X.
“Total Border Patrol encounters for the entire month of June 2025 was 6,070,” Homan said. “That is less than a single day under Biden. As a matter of fact, the total number of encounters is less than half of a single day under Biden on many days. Also, none of the 6,070 were released into the U.S. ZERO. President Trump has created the most secure border in the history of the nation and the data proves it. We have never seen numbers this low.”
Trump has made securing the southern border, deporting illegal aliens, and reducing crime core policy pillars of his second term. On January 20, he signed an executive order to protect the border and deport as many illegal aliens as possible. In an additional executive order on July 24, Trump ordered the federal government to restore safety to America’s cities and address the homelessness crisis. In signing the One Big Beautiful Bill, Trump also secured a $50,000 signing bonus, student loan payments, and additional pay for ICE agents.
