The incident occurred near the intersection of Anderson School Road and Shire Lane, where deputies from the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office were initially called to respond to a single-vehicle accident reported by a passerby. However, while on their way to the accident, law enforcement received a second report concerning a burglary in progress at a nearby residence.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found visible damage to the residence from the forced entry. The homeowner explained that an unknown man had forcibly entered the home, prompting the homeowner to shoot the intruder. When authorities entered the home, they found the suspect lying on the ground. The Pettis County Ambulance District was immediately called to the scene, but the man was declared dead upon their arrival.
