Former First Lady Michelle Obama is organizing shows with drag performers and lewd musicians to rally support for Vice President Kamala Harris.
The initiative, spearheaded by Obama’s When We All Vote organization, has announced a series of “Party at the Polls” events designed to encourage voter participation in key battleground states. These events will feature different entertainers, including drag performers and “vulgar” musicians to energize youth voters and communities that historically have lower turnout.
“Georgia! I’m excited to join @WhenWeAllVote for a rally in Atlanta on Tuesday, October 29!” Obama posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “With early voting happening right now – it’s important that folks make a plan to vote by Election Day.” (Related: ‘Drag Queens for Kamala’ release music video supporting her campaign for president.)
The series of events held one in Phoenix on Oct. 18, while another will be on Oct. 29 in Nevada, featuring a drag performer from the popular TV show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
Additionally, When We All Vote will play a role in Georgia’s “ONE Musicfest,” scheduled from Oct. 26 to 27, where high-profile artists like Cardi B and Nelly will perform. The event seeks to inspire voters to engage in the democratic process while enjoying music and entertainment.
All this, to shore up support for Harris and other Democratic candidates, two weeks before the upcoming election on Nov. 5.
Kokx: Voter registration and turnout events are designed to entice low-information Democratic voters
When We All Vote claims the initiative is “nonpartisan,” but journalist Stephen Kokx doesn’t think so.
He wrote in his article on LifeSiteNews: “The ‘nonpartisan’ group seeks to promote voter registration but in reality is a front organization designed to entice low-information Democratic voters to cast their ballots by offering them free food at locations near voting stations.”
This claim is backed by previous endorsements from drag queens. For instance, the “Drag Drag Queens for Kamala” organization released a music video in August to endorse Harris. “She’ll get bills passed in Congress that’ll protect me and you,” one of the drag queens sang in the music video. “Black, white, Latino or LGBTQ,” another added, in their rendition of Peggy Lee’s jazz single “I’m a Woman.” Based on the video, they strongly believe Harris will defend them “from harm without building a wall, ’cause she’s a woman.”
Similarly, in July, over 1,100 pro-LGBTQ+ political leaders, including Hollywood celebrities and social media influencers, endorsed Harris for president. The signatories include the leaders of Advocate for Transgender Equality, Alice B. Toklas LGBTQ Democratic Club, Equality California, the LGBTQ Victory Fund, LPAC and the National LGBTQ Task Force. The Human Rights Campaign and the Washington D.C. LGBTQ+ lobbying powerhouse supported these organizations.
“As advocates, elected officials, organizations and community leaders serving millions of LGBTQ+ Americans and our allies across the country, we urge you to join us in this historic moment to advance equality by supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign for president,” the letter read. “Vice President Kamala Harris is a galvanizing trailblazer and has been a champion for LGBTQ+ equality for decades: leading the fight in San Francisco against hate crimes, working to end the so-called gay and transgender ‘panic defense’ in California, and, as an early supporter of marriage equality, refusing to defend the unconstitutional Proposition 8.”
Moreover, Harris launched her presidential campaign on “Ru Paul’s Drag Race All Stars” on July 29.
