Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has said that the West’s continued intention to supply Ukraine with weapons is likely to lead to World War 3. Once Ukraine gets in the habit of using these weapons to strike targets on Russian soil, this conflict will expand globally.
So far, Russia’s restraint is keeping this conflict regional, and a proxy war for the United States and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). But what is their real red line, since the others have all been crossed? Could it be deeper strikes by Ukraine in Russian territory with Western weapons?
Russia Makes More Threats Against Ukraine With “Harsh Response” Rhetoric
Salvini believes that that could be the proverbial straw that will break the camel’s back. Russian officials have claimed that the Ukrainian military has been using Western-supplied weapons in their incursion in Kursk Region, while several Western media outlets have published articles with similar claims of late. A number of Kyiv’s backers have also publicly given the green light to use the weapons they have provided on Russian soil.
Another Empty Threat? Russia Warns Ukraine Over Kursk Attack
Speaking to Il Sussidiario media outlet on Wednesday, Salvini, who is also the minister of infrastructure and transport and leads the Lega Nord (Northern League) party, said the “sending of weapons to strike and kill also on Russian territory would be a disaster, the antechamber of a dramatic world conflict.”
In June, Salvini urged Italians to not let left-wing parties win, (plying into the left vs. right paradigm lie) as they, together with French President Emmanuel Macron, would make the prospect of a third world war a possibility. “I strongly ask for a vote against the war, to isolate dangerous bombers like Macron,” he said at the time. Salvini also praised the Italian government for its firm position against those in Europe who speak about potentially deploying Western troops to Ukraine, having previously criticized the French president for refusing to rule this out.
The deputy prime minister also stated in June that “we will no longer approve sending any type of weapon unless we have the certainty that those weapons will not be used to attack and kill inside Russia.”
Back in May, it was reported that Ukraine was using the weapons supplied by its Western allies to attack deep into Russian territory.
Ukraine Is Using Western-Supplied Weapons To Attack Deep Into Russia
“It would be the incident that takes us straight towards the Third World War,” Salvini said back in June. Around the same time, Salvini described NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg as a “dangerous gentleman” after he proposed allowing Kiev to strike targets deep inside Russia with Western weapons.
NATO Chief Says The West Should Prepare For “A LONG WAR”
Should Russia decide to retaliate for the West’s already blatant participation in this conflict, a global war will ensue. It’s Russia’s continued restraint that is keeping the U.S. and other western countries in a proxy war as opposed to an all-out hot war.
