Moscow says Washington responsible for deadly Crimea strike that killed children on the beach
In a statement from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, it was revealed that the United States military-industrial complex is responsible for the latest Ukrainian missile strike on the city of Sevastopol in Russia’s Crimea.
The attack, which involved five U.S.-supplied ATACMS long-range missiles armed with highly controversial cluster warheads, killed at least four people, two of them children. Another 120 people were injured by the strike.
The incident occurred in the Crimean Peninsula on Sunday, June 23. Russian air defenses destroyed four of the ATACMS missiles, while the fifth hit after veering off course and detonating over the Black Sea port city of Sevastopol.
According to reports, falling fragments of cluster munitions struck crowds of people and resulted in numerous injuries and deaths of civilians, including nearly 30 children.
“All the flight tasks for the … ATACMS missiles are assigned by American specialists on the basis of their own U.S. satellite intelligence data,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement. “Therefore, responsibility for the deliberate missile strike on civilians in Sevastopol lies primarily with Washington, which supplied these weapons to Ukraine, as well as the Kyiv regime, from whose territory this attack was launched.” (Related: This is how Russia can get its stolen money back while leaving the financial West to collapse all on its own.)
Russia will not allow Sevastopol attack to be “left unanswered”
Moscow all but promised retaliation for the attack, noting that the strike would not be “left unanswered” as the Russian military calculates its next move.

Despite earlier warnings from Russia, the U.S. announced back in July 2023 that it would be providing Ukraine with cluster munitions, to the chagrin of Moscow.
“These weapons scatter dozens of smaller bombs when detonated,” reported RT. “The bomblets, usually spread over large areas, can remain unexploded for years and even decades, posing particularly high risks to densely populated areas.”
More than 100 countries have banned cluster munitions, including the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. The U.S., Ukraine, and Russia, meanwhile, are all free to use them as they never signed the Convention on Cluster Munitions, though Russia promised in 2023 to not use them against Kyiv.
This is not the first time that Ukraine has targeted Crimea with U.S.-made ATACMS missiles. Back in May, Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov reported that the Russian military shot down 10 ATACMS that were targeting the strategic Crimean Bridge.
That same month, U.S. media outlets reported that Washington had given the green light for U.S.-supplied weapons to be used in Ukraine’s cross-border attacks inside Russian territory. The approval initially only applied to the northeastern Kharkiv Region, but the Pentagon later expanded approval for attacks well beyond that area.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, continues to warn that Ukraine’s use of Western weapons inside Russian territory is “close to aggression.”
“This all reminds me of how the ICC was keen to put Russians on the list when the passenger flight MH17 got hit by a missile,” wrote a commenter at RT. “Will they now place Americans to this list as well?”
“Somebody passed the flight path to the Ukrainians on the ground. This is a war crime, no discussion,” wrote another individual.
Another noted that Putin “does not seem to want to do anything” as he continues to issue warnings while not doing much of anything in response to violations of those warnings by the West.
“He thinks that signing defense deals with North Korea or Vietnam is enough,” this person wrote. “It’s not. U.S., EU and Kyiv regime creatures who engage in or support these acts must start paying a personal price.”
