NORWALK, CA — A tobacco store owner in Norwalk, California, shot and killed one of three burglary suspects on Tuesday morning during an attempted robbery. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. in the 10900 block of East Firestone Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The confrontation began when the store owner and his partner, identified only as Andy and Sam, arrived at their tobacco shop. Andy was targeted by three men attempting to break into his car, which contained a significant amount of tobacco inventory. During the robbery, one of the suspects pepper-sprayed Andy, prompting him to defend himself by firing his gun.
Andy’s business partner, Sam, explained that the suspects had broken the car window and used pepper spray in an attempt to steal merchandise. Andy, feeling threatened, fired his gun at the intruders, hitting one of them.
“We’ve been getting a lot of things like this, last year like four or five times. We are sick and tired, they come with a gun to rob us,” Sam said, expressing frustration over the repeated robberies their business has faced.
After the shots were fired, all three suspects fled the scene on foot as their getaway car was blocked in. The suspect who was shot was found in a nearby alley and was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His identity has not been released.
The two other suspects were apprehended in a nearby neighborhood after authorities set up a perimeter and conducted a search. Both are now in custody.
Local witnesses reported hearing gunshots and saw the injured suspect attempting to escape before collapsing. The store’s front window was shattered during the incident, further indicating the severity of the altercation.
Sam revealed that this was not the first time their store had been targeted. They have experienced multiple robberies, resulting in significant financial losses and creating a constant sense of danger.
