BATON ROUGE, LA (2-minute read) – Baton Rouge authorities are currently investigating a tragic incident at a local motel that resulted in the deaths of two individuals on Monday evening.
The event occurred approximately at 8:10 PM at the Fountain Motel located near the intersection of Airline Highway and Goodwood Boulevard. The police have identified one of the deceased as 28-year-old Michael Beverly, who is believed to have initiated the confrontation.
According to official reports, Beverly approached two individuals at the motel and brandished a firearm, opening fire. In response, one of the individuals shot back, fatally wounding Beverly. Tragically, a second person was also killed during the exchange, having been inadvertently caught in the crossfire.
The individual who returned fire was unharmed and cooperated with law enforcement by staying at the scene until authorities arrived. The Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) has deemed the shooting a justifiable homicide, following their preliminary investigation.
The identity of the second victim has yet to be disclosed. It is not clear who fired the fatal shot that struck the bystander.
